Fervent Prayer

There is a picture of my Mother that was brought back to remembrance of her sitting silently in the kitchen with a dish towel draped over her head. What an odd thing to have beheld you must think? But as children we knew that if my Mom was found as so, she was not to be disturbed unless of dire straits. I'm talking about broken limbs, fire, and blood. Otherwise, she was to be left alone, in prayer.

Now my prayers were being interrupted by my youngest to ask a question of 'great importance' [in her mind]. With extending grace, yet with great tenacity, I patiently expressed to my sweet daughter the impertinence of the situation and reasoning behind it. As my older two have learned, and now Emma, there are guidelines in place when Mama is praying. Just as my Mother instilled in my siblings and I, our time with the Lord comes first and foremost. I pray that my children will glean by example and desire too as well.

Most importantly, I want my children to fully comprehend how in, Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus models prayer. :"Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

Church, the time is now! As Priscilla Shirer penned in her book, 'FERVENT', "...prayer is the divinely ordained mechanism that leads you into the heart and the power and the victory of Christ." There is no other way. Lost your passion? He will renew it. Need forgiveness? Ask for it. Need to forgive? He can help with that too. No more excuses! Let us rise up and take back what the enemy has stolen from us! Always remember, the devil is only a slithering snake found within the grasses of lies and deception that our feet will trample on each and every time we PRAY!
