A while back I was in my bedroom folding laundry and decided to watch t.v. while doing so. I chose the 2015 Peanut's movie. (A child at heart I am.) I heard a line which caught my attention . Lucy asks a little boy why he was walking through the snow as such? His response, "Trying to follow in the footsteps of greatness."
What are the characteristics made up of Greatness? Is it their monetary worth? The multiple diplomas and awards hanging upon their office wall? Amount of books published? The number of races won?..... I concur that each of these, in one way or another, warrants praise and recognition for their sheer will and determination to arrive where they are today. Whether alive or passed on in legend.
But what of the unseen heroes who lacks the recognition they so deserve but may not acquire? Here are a few of my thoughts on the matter. What about the men and women who risk and/or lose their lives on a daily basis to serve and protect this Great Nation we're so blessed to reside in? Leaving everything they love behind. Or the nurse whose hands daily change bedpans, re-bandage scarring incisions, sift through vomit, and all the while do so with a smile upon their face and caring tones of comfort? A friend who offers to come clean the bathrooms you are unable to do so yourself. Awaking one morning to find a loved one bent over affectionately weeding and planting flowers in a garden you no longer can tend to. A father leading by example within his daily life of Faith, diligence, hard work, and making time for those he loves most. Once all tucked in bed, by the light of his desk lamp, continues to attack the work he earlier set aside. A Mother's legacy of conviction, generosity of spirit, kindness, unconditional love, and laughter that shall be left behind. These are those who inspire. These are my family and friends who lead by example. So I hope to follow in their footsteps of greatness!
