New Beginnings

It is a new year. A chance for a fresh start. One of new beginnings, new adventures, new friendships to be had, and forgiveness to be made. Many of you out there may be the optimist that proclaims, "Out with the old and in with the new." Perhaps you are one feeling melancholy as you reflect of difficult circumstances that came with the passing year and/or are aware of some rather tough adjustments ahead. Whether the first or latter, we all have a choice to make and that is how we are going to embrace 2017.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 reads, To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:
A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted;
A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up;
A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away;
A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silence, And a time to speak;
A time to love, And a time to hate; A time of war, And a time of peace. NKJV

Does any particular verse stand out to you? Perhaps whisper softly to your heart as some are to me? I believe that each and everyone of us can pick out at least one illustrative word that challenges our soul. That speaks to our spirit within and brings to mind someone or something that either needs us to love or needs us to let go.

The world is full of the hurt and suffering. But where to begin? Your neighbor, friend, co-worker, or church member is a good place to start. Extend that hand to take into yours. Embrace their individuality. Look into their eyes and begin to read their story. Perhaps yours is one of triumph and glory that they will glean from.

Let this be a year of release. To seize each day without fear, trepidation, or regret. To choose strength, redemption, freedom, peace, unconditional love, and joy in its stead. To make t-i-m-e the expression of your love. Reach to the cross and join me to permit this year as one of New Beginnings.
