My Mama, My Friend

This lady is my Mom. She has the bluest eyes that I have ever seen and a beautiful smile to go along. People are drawn to her kindness. Her heart is one of sentiment and love. Grace received and Grace bestowed. A warm demeanor she has. Mom has been my biggest cheerleader in many ways, but when it comes down to the encouragement of my writing, she tops them all.

Mom has not led an easy life. Becoming sick in High School began then the battle of many illnesses and surgeries to come. In fact, Mom was so frail, that the Doctor specifically discouraged her from having any children. But knowing my Mom as I do, stubborn in many ways, (as I) she chose to disregard their strong advice to the unmistakable growing desire to try. To be the Mom she knew she was meant to be. Shortly after I was conceived. All in all, yes, she risked her life to give me mine and many called that irresponsible, reckless behavior. Not I. Mom listened to that inner voice that so many of us dismiss and gave birth to this girl.

Now, I have had a plethora of health issues and then some and there are those that do think that it was unwise for one so sick to have a child. Well, let me tell you just how mistaken they are. This precious life of mine is making a difference in this world and within the hearts of others. Exemplifying a life of strength within the storm. Just as my Mom is doing.

A diagnosis of Cancer that brought details so grim knocked the wind right out of me. It shook my world to its very core. Yet, it was my Mom who comforted and encouraged me. Later on that night we found ourselves on the phone carrying on as we, both, roared in laughter. I drew strength after a day spent. My Mom gets me. She understands what it is to have pain. Unable to do for others as we long to. But it is her undying Faith that has brought her thus far and will continue to do so until the very end. When she reaches the shore on the other side. When she is home.
